Oil seals (also called shaft seals or lip seals) are critical components that seal rotating shafts where they pass through engine housings. They prevent engine oil from leaking out while also keeping contaminants from entering the engine. The seal lip rides on the rotating shaft surface and must maintain constant contact to prevent leaks. Worn or damaged oil seals cause oil leaks, potential bearing damage from oil loss, and contamination of internal components.
